SUO Program and Abstract Committees

Program Committee

  • The SUO Program Committee shall consist of two overall Program Chairs and a committee for each distinct cancer site.
  • Every year there will be a committee for Prostate Cancer, Bladder Cancer, Kidney Cancer, and Health Services. On alternating years, there will be a fifth committee for either Penile Cancer or Testis Cancer.
  • Committees for the cancer sites shall consist of one Chair, one Vice-Chair, and 4 committee members. Committee members should be SUO member urologists. A medical oncologist or radiation oncologist may be included on the committee where appropriate.
  • The Chair and Vice-Chair shall each serve for one year. The Vice-Chair shall ascend to Chair of a committee after completion of their term.
  • Committee members shall serve for three years, with the possibility of an additional two years if appointed to Vice-Chair. Terms for the committee members shall be staggered.

Abstract Committee

  • The SUO Abstract Committee shall consist of the two overall Program Chairs and a committee for each distinct cancer site.
  • Every year there will be a committee for Prostate Cancer, Bladder Cancer, Kidney Cancer, Health Services, Penile Cancer, and Testis Cancer.
  • Committees for Prostate Cancer, Bladder Cancer, and Kidney Cancer will each consist of 12 members. Committee members should be SUO member urologists and can include the members of the program planning committee for each distinct cancer site.
  • Committees for Health Services, Penile Cancer, and Testis Cancer will each consist of 6 members. Committee members will include the members of the program planning committee for each distinct cancer site.
  • The overall Program Chairs will be responsible for reviewing abstracts submitted under the “Other” category.
  • Abstract committee members shall serve for 5 years. Terms for the committee members shall be staggered.

Selection of Committee Members

  • The Chair and Vice-Chair of each committee will be selected by the overall Program Chairs, with approval of the SUO President.
  • When a program or abstract review committee member’s term has completed, the overall Program Chairs will be responsible for selecting a new member to fill the vacancy, with approval from the SUO President Program chairs should consider the committee’s current geographic makeup (including Canada), major academic centers, and diversity when selecting new members.
  • Members of the abstract review committee are eligible to be selected to the program committee, and vice versa. Members can serve on both committees simultaneously.
  • The Executive Office will solicit SUO members to serve on the program committees and the abstract review committees. Interested members will provide their name, Fellowship institution (if applicable), and preferred disease site. The Executive Committee will keep a list of interested members and provide it to the overall Program Chairs when new members are needed to fill a vacancy.
